Camp in your Backyard: Cuz the Great Outdoors Aren’t Really that Great
A nice way to enjoy the “great outdoors” without having to spend a lot of money or travel very far is to go camping.
However, camping can be a hassle. There are many sites available in the greater Vancouver area, but most of the time they are full. If you have a spontaneous plan to go camping on the long weekend, you can forget about it. Most campsites are completely booked months ahead of time.
That is why you should tent in your backyard.
Think about it, it’s free! There is ample room! You can experience nature without being completely surrounded by it. Best of all, there are flushable toilets.
If you cannot get out of town for the summer, why not make yourself feel a tiny bit adventurous. Little kids do it all the time, why can’t adults? All that is needed is a backyard and a tent.
A real downer to camping has to be the recent fire ban across BC. No more roasting weenies or making S’mores. But, if you are in your backyard, just open a door and turn on the stove. You could also: tell ghost stories, play some guitar, cook meat on a barbeque… The possibilities are endless.
A good, cheap tent is usually available to buy from Walmart. Other options include searching for used tents on craigslist.com. Don’t forget your mosquito repellent.
Where: Your backyard or any other open grassy area
How much: Free!
Why: You’d rather sleep on the ground then your perfectly fine mattress
