Cheap Pitcher Vancouver Pub Crawl
It’s kind of exhilarating, when you discover a cheap bar for the first time. You read the drinks menu, look at your friends and go “holy crap, pitchers here are only $12.50!”. It’s like discovering a new star, a new planet, or… just a new place to get drunk for cheap.
And getting drunk for cheap goes hand in hand with pub crawls, bike riding and peeing in an alley.
A great way to spend a lazy, summer day is biking around Downtown Vancouver to visit the local watering holes. With these new biking lanes all over town, why wouldn’t you want to grab a bike and peddle around between bars? Sure, you may be full of beer, but biking will sober you up just that little bit so you can down another pitcher at the next place.
Some of the best places to stop around town, are located in the heart of the Granville District, English Bay, and Gastown areas. One of the most infamous places to get drunk for cheap, has got to be The Cambie. Notorious for big lineups, huge tables, cheap beer, and peeing in an alley, The Cambie is a great place for Vancouverites and Travelling hooligans. Not really a great place for a quiet pint, The Cambie is better suited to larger parties and loud good times.
A more quiet and relaxed time to visit the Cambie is during the day after lunchtime. The “balcony” is open, their serving food (they serve food?!), and it fits right in as a perfect place to start your drunk bike crawl adventure. You may even be lucky enough to see the street artist Hook, trying to sell a painting of his. Grab a pitcher of Winchester for around $11 and start drinking.
Good old, Winchester. The beer that tastes like… indistinguishable yellow liquid. Around town, this has got to be the cheapest option for beer/pitchers in Vancouver. Available at such great establishments as The Cambie and Mountain Shadow Pub (Burnaby), this beer will get you drunk for cheap. And isn’t that the idea?
When you get sick of The Cambie, head up to Cafe Crepe on Granville. A slightly different atmosphere, Cafe Crepe offers cheap pitchers ($12.50) with the chance to buy a delicious, golden crepe. Make sure you head to the SECOND Cafe Crepe on Granville Street (South of Robson), as it is much larger and doesn’t require purchasing food with your alcohol.
After The Cambie and Cafe Crepe, your options for cheap pitchers of beer diminish slightly in the Downtown core. Chances are, you’re going to be paying around $15 for pitchers. But, for about 4 1/2 glasses each, it’s still a relatively good deal. Some places to try include: The Templeton (which also has DELICIOUS milkshakes) for $15 pitchers, Steamworks Restaurant for $14 Fishbowls (4oz, special on Fri/Sat), Wings (~$12.99 a pitcher), Pub 340 (~$10.50), Shenanigans (cheap), Pat’s Pub, Memphis Blues and many other options…
